Veronica Mars: Required Reading
In the VM fanfic world, there are stories that I like. There are stories that I love, even. And then there are the stories that crawl under my skin and leave me going "holy crap this is unbefuckinbelievable" and have me coming back to reread constantly, only to marvel at the talent of the writers and hope that some day my writing is anywhere near as amazing as theirs. These are those stories.



This actually started when I was at missdeviant's in Austin, and she was asking me where to find good VM fic, and I kept listing stories off the top of my head that I thought she had to read. So, I thought maybe it'd be a good idea to compile all of my absolute favorite stories in one post.

Let's Never Call It Even by amerella. (Logan/Weevil; R) Logan used to feel like that all the time, every second, but lately he can never figure out how he feels. He’s angry, sometimes. It takes him some time to realize that he’s angry now.

Logan says, and for a second he badly wants to hit her, beat her stupid condescending face in, punch her in the neck. When he turns towards her, furious, he sees the bruise his father left, and jumps back so hard his head hits against the doorframe and for a second he sees stars. "Fuck!"

Nothing bugs him quite like being pigeonholed by those naïve enough to swear the world is straddling some discrete divide between black and white.

Hypothetical by marylane23. (Logan, Duncan; PG-13) Logan’s got the experience and Duncan gets in the lucky punches, and soon they’re both patients, getting stitched up while the girl they love is in surgery four floors above them.

Purple Monkey Dishwasher by missdeviant. (Veronica/Logan; NC-17). Maybe the way it happened was that Logan stroked Veronica’s hair, and he cried about his mother/father/Lilly, and thanked Veronica from saving him from his foolish and self destructive ways. And she handed him Kleenex, while having multiple orgasms.

Fresh Egg by sadiekate. (Logan, Wallace; PG-13) Wallace looks at Logan like he’s one of the slow kids that the yellow signs on suburban streets warn about. It’s one of his default expressions, Logan has noticed.

Who Was Crying Or What They Were Crying For by sadiekate. (Logan/Veronica; PG-13) When the gun salute goes off, she puts her fingers in her ears and tries to pretend her world hasn’t exploded around her.

Cuttings by sexycereal. (Logan/Veronica; PG) That is how the world sees Logan Echolls. Veronica suddenly feels very glad that she knows him personally because it means she can hate him legitimately for behaving like an ass.

L for… well, too many things, like, love and life and Lilly, Logan, Lianne – loser. You hand your dad an infinite amount of pages covered in red Fs and his expression is pained. You lose at life.

(Weevil/Veronica, Logan; PG-13) He says it while he's unfolding his napkin to scrub at a spot he'd left on the table, just says it like that, like it's nothing to say those types of things to her. Like maybe she never even noticed that he had let her in. What it meant that he trusts her to trust him.

Hollow You Out by sinaddict. (Duncan/Logan/Veronica; R) Logan does not want to be at Tri-City Hospital at eleven-thirty on a Friday night. Veronica hates everything about hospitals. And Duncan wants to go home and take a sleeping pill to forget the whole damn mess.

(Logan; PG-13) Logan hasn’t seen her since she was nine and he only remembers two things about Blythe but he sort of wishes he was in her ragged little room with a baseball bat, smacking paparazzi out of the trees for her. He tells her to turn on the news and wait.

Neither Thought nor Memory by thedorkygirl. (Veronica, PG-13) Veronica's terrified that soon there will be an entire day with neither thought nor memory of Lilly. Maybe that'd be okay for the dead girl, but the one still alive can't allow it.

(Lilly, Celeste, Aaron; R) She would never be certain when it was that she had finally understood what Duncan was wailing. ...Most times, though, she would say that it was when she saw Lilly's foot at that odd angle. Blood could be explained -- for it might not have been blood, perhaps it had only occurred to her that it was blood in the memories but not the actual moment -- but Lilly's foot was catawampus. At least, this was where she dropped the mail. This was where she liked to think that she knew.

(Veronica/Lilly/Logan/Duncan; NC-17) You are Veronica Mars, badass in a threesome with the two people that would make Duncan Kane's head explode, and that makes you feel a little bit evil and even more turned on... which you'll analyze later when Logan isn't pulling your shirt off.

The Comeback: The Vanity Fair Profile by yahtzee63. (Aaron Echolls, Ensemble; PG-13) Aaron Echolls may again be a free man, but only time will tell if he can still be a star.



Somewhat sadly, this is the most productive thing I've done all day.
